Head Chef

Head Chef

Father Carpenter is looking for a Head Chef to lead us forward and develop our food offering further.

Our kitchen is bright & large and looking for a talented, hardworking chef to step in, take the reigns and further our reputation & success. This position is an important part of the puzzle.

Father Carpenter is a breakfast & lunch restaurant coming from Australian roots. Over the past decade we have helped forge a strong and robust breakfast culture in Berlin by providing what we like to call 'quality focused comfort food with a twist'. We have our staples that stay on the menu, but change up the food and drink menu as the seasons ebb and flow delivering and taking away certain ingredients.

Our team is international & multicultural & accepting of this. We want to create and provide a safe, inclusive but hardworking and progressive workplace.

What we are looking for in a Head Chef:

  • First and foremost; previous experience in either a Sous Chef, Head Chef or Kitchen Manager position. We are not hiring anyone without this and we require references to confirm.
  • Culture fit; it doesn't matter if you're the best chef in the universe, a solid culture fit is more important. This will be determined through multiple interviews and meetings of different people inside of FC.
  • A solid understanding of organisational management and metrics. The Head Chef is to manage the kitchen's budget & spending based on data, facts and organisational forethought.
  • A deep understanding of breakfast culture/cafe culture and/or a desire to learn about it. We are not trying to get Michelin stars but we would like to have a creative & modern menu, and so are looking for a Head Chef that has their finger on the pulse of contemporary food but an understanding of what we are and what we are not.
  • Ability to create correctly costed and accounted for menus and systematically execute said menus with a team. This is: creativity (chaos) followed by organisation (order).
  • Team player. Hospitality is a team sport and the Head Chef is responsible for their teams success. The Head Chef will regularly meet with the Venue Manager for operational discussions, and also regularly meet with owner for management discussions and feedback.

What we offer

  • An organised and structured, mature workplace operated with systems. Our days of chaos are long gone and we work with a systematic approach to everything.
  • Daytime work, completely free of nights, and two consecutive days off.
  • A workplace conducive to great tips shared equally. We have invested in the business and have created a space that induces tipping, and staff receive weekly sums.
  • Discounts on Father Carpenter coffees and products. Be it lunch you want to shout your parents, or a bag of coffee for home, all come with discounts.
  • Monetary incentives based on KPIs and targets. Hitting labour targets and COGS targets result in monetary bonuses.

The position is full time, but could be 4 days per week if need be.
Full benefits, a month's paid leave, and competitive monthly salary.

If you do not have a valid EU passport or German working visa, Anmeldung and Steuer Identifikationsnummer please do not apply until these three requisites are completed and you can prove/provide it.

If this sounds like the job for you and you tick most, or all, of the boxes then we would love to hear from you. Click the link below and submit your application and CV.
